First randomized study on ICP monitoring in TBI patients

Chesnut et al have published the first randomized trial comparing care of patients with severe traumatic brain injury based on intracranial pressure monitoring with care guided by neurologic examination and serial CT imaging. (N Engl J Med 367:2471-2481, 2012.)

The authors conclude that care focused on maintaining intracranial pressure at 20 mmHg or less was not superior to care based on imaging and clinical examination.
