Lumbar disc syndromes

root usually compressed L4 L5 S1
reflex diminished knee jerk medial hamstring Achilles (ankle jerk)
motor weakness quadriceps femoris (knee extension) EHL and tibialis anterior (foot droop) gastrocnemius (plantarflexion)
decreased sensation medial malleolus and medial foot large toe web and dorsum of foot lateral malleolus and lateral foot
pain distribution anterior thigh posterior LE posterior LE, often to ankle
root usually compressed L4 L5 S1
